Getting started

Two short paths: make your first Applet, or run one someone shared with you.

Your Applets are in the left sidebar, in three groups: My Applets, Shared with me and Bookmarked.

Make your first Applet

  1. Create your account with your invitation code. Choose a nickname and how we treat your work, then click Start making Applets.
  2. Click + New Applet.
  3. Pick a starter in the panel of the AI Expertise Engineer (the Engineer). You bring the expertise; it does the engineering.
    • Help me turn an existing prompt into an Applet: paste your prompt. The Engineer sorts it into the Instruction and drafts the form.
    • Help me turn my idea into an Applet: the Engineer interviews you, one question at a time, and drafts it with you.
  4. Check the Instruction and the Interface. Edit anything directly, or ask the Engineer.
  5. Test it. Click Test. The Test tab runs your current edits, even unsaved ones. Fill in the form with your own material and click Run. Start with non-confidential material.
  6. Improve it. Tell the Engineer, beside the result, what was wrong. Or, in Versions & runs, add a note to the run and send it to the Engineer. Load inputs reruns the same inputs with your changes.
  7. When you are happy, click Save as new version.
  8. Use it. Click ↗ next to the version label, or next to the Applet in the sidebar. This runs your latest saved version, for real work. Edit in Workspace takes you back to the editor.
  9. Share it. Click Share, choose who can use it (Private, Invite only, Public or Open source), add up to three examples if you like, and copy the link. A version must have run successfully once before you can share it.

Charge for use (Experimental)

On an Invite only or Public Applet, you can turn on Charge for use in Share:

  • choose a price of $1, $2 or $3 per run, and 0 to 3 free runs per person;
  • people pay the price from their credit to yours, on top of the usual usage cost, and confirm before their first paid run;
  • your own runs and tests are never charged.

Earnings in Account settings shows how many runs were paid and what you earned. You never see who ran your Applet or what they entered.

Run an Applet shared with you

  1. Open the link. You see what the Applet does, who made it, what it will produce, and any examples.
  2. Fill in the inputs and click Run.
  3. Sign in or create a free account if asked. No invitation code is needed. Your inputs are kept, and you come straight back.
  4. Read your result. Copy it, or ask follow-up questions if the Applet allows.
  5. Run it again. Choose Use inputs from a past run, or open a past run and click Run again with these inputs.
  6. Find it again in the sidebar under Shared with me, with all your past runs.

Bookmark a Public or Open source Applet with the bookmark icon on its page or on its card in Explore. It then appears under Bookmarked.

Applets with a price show it next to the Maker's name, for example "1 free run, then $2.00 per run". After your free runs, you confirm before your first paid run, and the button reads Run for $2.00.

Good to know:

  • Your inputs and results are saved privately to your account. The Maker cannot see them.
  • If a run shows Problem, read the note above the result, adjust your inputs and run again. A run that returns an answer is charged, even when it shows Problem.
  • Your account comes with $10 of free credit. If it runs out, click Request more credit.
  • To make your own Applets, click Make your own Applet and enter an invitation code, or join the waitlist.
